Cricket action in Sept.

The football fever may have ended with Germany lifting the World Cup on Sunday, but sports enthusiasts in Dhanbad may still have something to look forward to.

For, Dhanbad Cricket Association has decided to organise a domestic tournament in September. Three teams, each with 11 top players, will vie for the trophy.

Office-bearers of the association released a list of 60 players on Tuesday. Among them 31 will be selected to form the three teams — Super Division team, A Division team and B Division team.

Apart from these players, the tournament will have some star attraction. Players like Shabaz Nadim and S.S. Rao, who have donned the India cap, are likely to participate.

Based on the performance of the players in the upcoming tournament, the senior district team will be constituted.

“As soon as they will get the sponsors, we will finalise the venue and other details,” said outfit general secretary Vinay Singh.

Meanwhile, the outfit will host a three-day umpire seminar at its office at Randhir Verma Stadium from June 25 to 27. “We will also host separate camps for junior-level cricketers later this year,” Singh added.
