Bonus hike

Calcutta, July 15: Finance minister Amit Mitra today announced a hike in the Puja and Id bonus, ex-gratia and festival advance for government employees and pensioners.

The ad hoc bonus for government employees with a monthly salary of up to Rs 22,000 has been increased to Rs 3,000 from Rs 2,600. The festival advance for those with a gross monthly salary ceiling of Rs 30,000 has been increased by Rs 500 to Rs 3,000.

The slab, Mitra said, would cover most group D staff and some group C staff members, besides employees of civic bodies, panchayats and teachers.

Employees and pensioners of public sector undertakings who do not come under the purview of the bonus would each get an ex-gratia of Rs 1,500 against Rs 1,000 last year. There is no gross salary ceiling for this category, the finance minister said.

Nabanna sources put the total number of beneficiaries at five lakh.

Asked about the additional burden on the state’s coffers, Mitra said: “Those calculations are yet to be done.”
