Calcutta, July 14: Two Forward Bloc leaders who supposedly resigned from the Left party earlier this month today met Rahul Sinha at the state BJP headquarters, a day after the Bengal BJP president said they would join the organisation on July 20.
Former Yuva League state president Ajoy Agnihotri and its former general secretary Anirban Chowdhury had yesterday said they were “in talks” with the BJP to join the party, apparently unhappy with “the way the organisation (Left) is being run”.
Today, although Chowdhury said he “could” switch over to the BJP, Agnihotri declined to commit anything.
“Let’s see. When it (the switchover) happens, you’ll know,” Agnihotri, who quit as member of the Bloc’s Calcutta district secretariat, said.
Chowdhury, who was the Bloc’s state committee member, said: “There’s a BJP event on July 20. Some important Yuva League functionaries and some Bloc members from the districts and Calcutta would be present. I could be there too. Subsequently, another lot of Bloc members who have severed ties with the Left party would join the BJP on another day.”
BJP Bengal president Sinha echoed what he said yesterday. “Both will join the BJP in July 20.”
The Bloc had yesterday said the two had been expelled.
