Help for girl

Balurghat, July 10: A group of 15 youths from a local club in Balurghat donated money to treat a four-year-old daughter of a rickshaw puller who was stung by wasps.

According to a source, Purnima Das was going to meet her friend in Patiram here on Monday, when she came in the way of a swarm of wasps. Someone had hit the wasp nest with a stone. As the wasps attacked the child, a woman who was nearby went to rescue her and was also stung.

Local people rescued the duo and admitted them to the Balurghat district hospital.

“I earn around Rs 100-150 a day. My wife is also ill and suffering from anaemia. So when the doctor referred my child to Malda, I took her home,” said the girl’s father. When a group of 15 men from Hitakar Samity heard about the girl’s condition, they approached the girl’s father yesterday and asked him to let them pay for the child’s treatment.

The youths pooled over Rs 4,000 and made all the arrangements and took the child to Malda medical college and hospital for treatment.
