Tata set to bare all

Tata: Looking back

Mumbai, July 1: Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of the Tata group, is set to disclose some of his best kept secrets in an interview with a Japanese newspaper.

Tata told Nikkei that he would not only throw light on some of the key business events during his tenure at the helm of the diversified conglomerate but also reveal why he had remained single in an account to be published by the newspaper.

Sources in the group said they were unaware of the specific comments made by Ratan Tata. However, they admitted that he had given an interview to the newspaper recently.

A part of Tata’s comments was carried by Nikkei today where he was quoted as saying that he would give an account of the joys that he experienced while heading the group. These included business developments such as acquisitions, making of the Nano and the selection of his successor.

Tata, who has been credited with bringing numerous achievements to the group, said he would reveal some aspects about his private life and speak on why he had remained single. Tata, who is often referred to as media shy, has divulged details of his personal life earlier as well.

In an interview to CNN International around four years ago, he said he had fallen in love four times and also came close to getting married on each of these occasions.

“I came seriously close to getting married four times and each time I backed off in fear or for one reason or another. Each occasion was different, but in hindsight when I look at the people involved; it wasn’t a bad thing what I did. I think it may have been more complex had the marriage taken place,” he had then said.
