Bishnupur triumph

Imphal, June 30: Bishnupur claimed the shanshou title, while Imphal East annexed the taolu one, with 27 medals each, in the 16th State-Level Wushu Championship at Moidangpok in Imphal West today.

The three-day event saw Bishnupur finishing with nine gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals for a total of 27 medals to claim the shanshou title.

Imphal East claimed 12 gold, 12 silver and three bronze medals for the taolu title.

In the shanshou event, Bishnupur fetched five gold medals, with H. Bijen Singh defeating N. Jetlee of Imphal East for the gold medal in the junior boys’ 45kg category.

In the 52kg bout, M. Rameshchandra of Bishnupur beat Y. Thoisana of Thoubal for the gold while A. Robertson of Imphal West and Th. Nilkumar of Imphal East settled for the bronze medals.

Th. Nanao of Bishnupur got the better of N. Basantakumar of Thoubal in the 75kg bout of the sub-junior boys’ event for the gold and silver.

In the 52kg category, N. Chaoba of Bishnupur beat compatriot T. Sanathoibi Devi for the gold medal in the sub-junior girls’ category.

The fifth gold for Bishnupur came in the 60kg-category of the sub-junior girls’ event with S. Priyanka beating A. Sarjubala of Imphal West.

A. Nongpoknganbi of Imphal West and A. Luwangleima of SAI bagged the bronze medals.

SAI NERC also landed a major chunk of the gold medals on the last day, picking up seven gold medals. However, this failed to put them in the medals’ race. The gold medallists for SAI are Y. Jesson in the sub-junior boys 48kg, M. Sunil in 56kg, Th. Bicky in 60kg, S. Satyabrata in 65kg, Sushil Singh in 70kg category, L. Kalpana in junior girls’ shanshou 48kg and Th. Aruna Devi in the 56kg category.

Volleyball: The Volleyball Federation of India has nominated international referee Th. Romeo Singh as the accompanying referee for the Indian Junior Women’s team in the Asian Junior Women’s Championship 2014 at Chinese Taipei from July 16-24.

Romeo got the opportunity through International Referee Candidate Nomination and will leave Imphal on July 9.
