12000 to take NET today

Ranchi, June 28: A total of 12,538 candidates will be appearing for National Eligibility Test (NET) in the state capital tomorrow.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is conducting the exam to select candidates for the post of assistant professor/junior research fellowship (JRF) at university and colleges.

There will be three papers with the exam beginning at 9am.

In Ranchi, there are six exam centres — Ranchi Women’s College, Ranchi College, Gossner College, multipurpose examination hall, basic science hall and humanity hall of Ranchi University.

NET is being held in 79 subjects. From Ranchi, the maximum number of candidates will be writing the test for history, economics, political science, Pali, commerce, geography, archaeology, management, Hindi and computer science. “We have a maximum number of 1,858 candidates in history followed by 1,133 in Hindi and 1,073 in commerce,” NET coordinator Ajit Sahay said.

The UGC has appointed observers — Saffruddin Ahmed of Patna University; Nandini Satpathy from Bhubaneswar; Ramashankar Singh of JP University, Bihar; and A. Ramakrishna of Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur — to ensure that the exam is conducted smoothly. This apart, there will be 700 invigilators.
