Semi-final line-up for Moran meet

Dibrugarh, June 25: Moran Yellow Star, Veteran XI, Moran Batamara Club and Bidhongshi XI have qualified for the semi-finals of the first prize-money night hockey tournament organised by Moran Khatkhati Yuva Manch at Moran.

Veteran XI were leading the points tally with eight points, remaining unbeaten in the league phase. Moran Batamara held them to a 2-2 draw in the first match.

Moran Yellow Star, Moran Batamara Club and Bidhongshi XI were in the second slot with six points a-side.

OIL XI finished at the bottom of the tally with four points.

Altogether five teams, comprising state level as well as international-level players of different age groups, are participating in the tournament.

The league round matches were played last evening.

The semi-finals will be played tonight.

The tournament was inaugurated by social worker Jarsah Hussain, in the presence of the organising committee’s chief adviser, Nareshwar Sonowal, who is the general manager of Moran tea estate and brother of Union sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal and a player who represented India in international school tournaments in 1972.

The winners and runners-up teams will be given cash prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Office soccer: The Guwahati Sports Association has asked interested office teams to confirm their participation by June 30 for the GSA Office Football League scheduled to start from July 1.

The GSA Office League is likely to restart after a gap of 10 years.
