All-party meet on NRC

Kokrajhar, June 25: An all-party meeting to discuss update of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was convened by Kokrajhar district administration at the deputy commissionerís conference hall here today.

Representatives of various organisations, including Absu, AASU, All Assam Minorities Studentsí Union, All BTAD Minority Studentsí Union, All Adivasi Studentsí Association of Assam, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Womenís Welfare Federation, BPF, Congress, senior citizens and members from various NGOs participated in the meeting. It was chaired by Kokrajhar deputy commissioner Nitin Khade.

Khade said the district administration is prepared to update the NRC. He said the process would be implemented through the guidelines available in adherence to the directives of the Centre in building mass awareness about the NRC.

The deputy commissioner said the NRC update would be completed in three years beginning this year. All formats will be distributed among citizens in the district within a short period.

The district administration has set up 53 local registers of citizenship registration at the village level to monitor the update.
