CM trip to north

June 22: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will reach Bagdogra on June 24 along with some cabinet colleagues and administrative officials, including the chief secretary, for a three-day trip to north Bengal.

The trip comes a few days after Mamata announced a new Alipurduar district.

“The CM will reach Bagdogra on June 24. She would either head straight to Alipurduar or hold an administrative meeting in Siliguri, preferably in Uttarkanya, and then head for Alipurduar,” said a source.

On June 25, Mamata will attend a government event in Alipurduar. “She will distribute secure land tenures, papers of housing schemes, Kanyashree and Yubashree, bicycles to girl students, equipment to fishermen and kisan credit cards,” an official said. “She is also likely to make announcements about the new district.”

After that she might go to Sukna. “She can also stay in Alipurduar and head for Bagdogra to take a flight (to Calcutta) on June 26,” said a source.

Sources said Alice Vaz R, a joint secretary in the consumer affairs and food supplies department, will be the first district magistrate of Alipurduar. Cooch Behar police chief Anup Jaiswal will be the first police chief of the new district.
