Congress fight

Calcutta, June 21: Congress workers today came to blows at a meeting convened by state unit president Adhir Chowdhury to review the party’s “poor” performance in Lok Sabha seats in and around Calcutta.

The ruckus at Netaji Institute in Sealdah started when Jhunu Sarkar, a Congress worker, said during his speech that Somen Mitra had “harmed” the organisation by switching over to the party from Trinamul. Loyalists of Mitra snatched the microphone and pushed Sarkar off the dais.

Another Congress worker was assaulted later for alleging that Calcutta South Lok Sabha poll candidate Mala Roy did not campaign properly.
