Molest cuffs

An employee of a pathological laboratory on Rabindra Sarani allegedly molested a 40-year-old woman on Monday. The incident took place around 12.40pm, said police. Prabir Das, 30, according to the complaint lodged by the woman, molested her while drawing her blood for tests. He was arrested from the laboratory.

Death toll

The death toll in the fire sparked by a leaking cooking gas cylinder at Dharpara slum cluster off Tiljala Road on Friday rose to seven on Monday, with the death of Mohammad Azad, 20. Azad, a local resident, had rushed to rescue people trapped in the fire. He was taken to hospital after he complained of breathlessness and a burning sensation, police said.

Wife murder

Tapas Mandal allegedly killed wife Swapna and dumped her body beside the tracks near Garia railway station on Sunday. They were residents of Fartabad in Sonarpur. Police said Tapas was arrested after he confessed to neighbours.

Man killed

A 65-year-old man was run over by a trailer at Garden Reach at 6.30pm on Monday. Hemanta Sarkar was killed on the spot. Residents blocked Garden Reach Road till 8.15pm protesting against rash driving of heavy vehicles.
