June 15: Ten persons were arrested in Jalpaiguri last night for allegedly selling question papers of a police recruitment exam.

Police said the arrested were part of a gang that bluffed the candidates of women constable exam into believing that they had the question papers. The accused were staying at a lodge in Jalpaiguri and offering question papers in exchange for money.

After the police got the information, they went to the lodge and arrested the 10. Basudeb Dutta, Sanjib Goswami, Moumita Sarkar and Pankaj Sarkar were among the arrested. All the 10 are residents of Jalpaiguri. The police are looking for Raju Sarkar, another accused who fled the spot.

“Today, the exam for the recruitment of women police constables for the north Bengal zone was held in Siliguri. We had got information that a group was selling question papers for the exam. We raided the lodge and arrested 10 persons. They had been deceiving the examinees as no question paper was recovered from them. The exam was held today without any problem,” said Kunal Agarwal, the superintendent of police of Jalpaiguri.
