Football Lovers win

Imphal, June 8: Football Lovers Association of Manipur, Bapupara, edged out Football Veteran Welfare Association, Mapal Kangjeibung, by 7-6 goals during tie-breaker to lift the champions trophy of the 16th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Both the teams tried their luck but failed to break the deadlock till the final whistle, resulting in the tie-breaker.

In the tie-breaker, Football Lovers Association Manipur pushed home seven goals with M. Shyamsunder, Ak. Makesh, Ng. Ruhikanta, P. Surchand, E. Ratan, E. Bishorjit and O. Kulla Singh finding the net while four missed their mark.

Football Veteran Welfare Association managed to put home six goals through K. Khellen, Kh. Rajen Khanganba, Kh. Raikumar, N. Uttam and Y. Ranjit while five players missed. Football Lovers got richer by Rs 25,000 along with the winner trophy while Football Veteran Welfare Association got the runners-up trophy along with Rs 20,000.

For the individual prizes, K. Khellen of Football Veteran Welfare Association walked away with the best defender and first scorer of the final awards while Rajen Khanganba and Y. Ranjit, also of Football Veteran, got the top scorer with eight goals and best goalkeeper titles respectively.

Football Lovers Association of Manipur walked away with two individual titles with L. Gunabir Singh and Ak. Mahesh becoming the best midfielder and best player respectively. All individual awards carried cash prize of Rs 2000 each. Imphal East Veteran Football Association was the best disciplined and fair play team in the tournament.

Sagolband legislator Rk. Imo Singh graced the final match and distributed the prizes to the teams.
