Holiday treat for all
- Best opening record for Akshay-Sonakshi

Akshay-Sonakshi starrer Holiday-a soldier is never off duty has marched ahead of the stars’ previous movies, managing to win the hearts of cine lovers as well as theatre owners.

The film, slotted for 18 shows — Cinepolis (10), Regent Fun Cinemas (4), Mona (3) and Elphinstone (1) has received a very good response on the first day itself.

The two stars have surpassed their Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Boss. In terms of monetary collection, Holiday has taken the lead and collected Rs 14.2 lakh on Day I.

Rowdy Rathore had collected Rs 7.2 lakh and last year’s release Lootera was Sonakshi’s worst performance with Rs 3.5 lakh collection on the first day.

Movie buffs praised the film after coming out of the cinemas. The footfall in the morning and afternoon shows was nearly 60 per cent and it went up to 80 per cent in the evening show.

On the reason for good footfall even in sultry conditions, Cinepolis manager Abhishek Ranjan said: “The combination of Akshay-Sonakshi is the sole reason. Schools and colleges are closed owing to summer vacation. People are coming in large numbers to watch the film.”

Some, however, expressed disappointment over the fewer number of shows. Chairperson and managing director of Regent, Suman Kumar Sinha, said: “After a long time, a good film has released. The length of the film has affected the number of shows. If the duration of the movie had been short we could have increased the number of shows from one to two per day.”

After watching the film at Regent Fun Cinemas, Buddha Colony resident and student of AN College Amritanshu Raj said: “It is a masala film and has all elements, from action to romance. Akshay and Sonakashi share a good chemistry.”

The movie revolves around Akshay who plays an army officer and Sonakshi essays a boxer’s role. At Cinepolis, Mithlesh Kumar said: “Both are my favourites. I have come to watch the film with my family members. Theatres are the best place to spend time in the scorching heat.”

Visual delight

Residents can watch Hollywood films like Frozen, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Rio 2, Godzilla, Avatar, Life Of Pi and The Amazing Spider-Man on RealD 3D cinema technology in Cinepolis. The technology uses circularly polarised light to produce stereoscopic image. It is part of the RealD 3D festival.
