Assam rowers in final

Guwahati, June 5: Assam rower Prerna Basnet has sealed a berth in the single scull sub-junior girls’ final of the 17th Sub-Junior National and 18 Challenger Sprint National Rowing Championship under way in Calcutta.

Assam’s prospects of a gold medal in the under-13 girls’ category also appear bright with Jyestha Dipak and Hanshita Sarmah making it to the double scull final.

On the other hand, Haladhar Choudhury made it to the single scull semi-final in the Challenger men’s category.

A 40-member squad from Assam is taking part in the meet hosted by the West Bengal Rowing Association on behalf of the Rowing Federation of India till Saturday.

School regatta: A 16-member team has been selected to represent Assam in the 42nd K.C. Mahindra All-India Invitation School Regatta to be held in Calcutta from June 8 to 15. The meet is organised and hosted by the Lake Club on behalf of the Rowing Federation of India. The squad will be leaving for Guwahati on Saturday.
