Trader in custody

Jorhat, June 4: Jorhat chief judicial magistrate (in-charge) S. Dhar today sent Ram Kumar Sharma, 35, to judicial custody for allegedly stocking and selling black tobacco at his shop that sells tea. Sharma, who was arrested last night after a police team seized six cartons of black tobacco from his shop at BNP Road here, was produced in court today.


Kokrajhar: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary distributed appointment letters to 165 teaching and non-teaching staff of seven colleges under BTC administration here on Tuesday.

Driver dead

Jorhat: Manohar Singh,40, a truck driver was found dead on Wednesday near the godown at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district where cement consignment from the truck was unloaded on Tuesday night. Police have picked up handyman, Litian Malakar, 23, for questioning.

Two arrested

Jorhat: Police arrested two youths, Madhyurjya Kalita and Polashjyoti Kalita, from Kamarmati village, on the outskirts of this town, on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the drowning of their friend ebajyoti Borah in the Brahmaputra on Monday afternoon.


Dhubri: Bhupen Talukdar, 50, a hardware trader of Matonga Chowk in Baksa district, was abducted by suspected militants when he was returning home from his shop on Tuesday night.

Dacoits held

Nagaon: Khotkhoti police arrested three dacoits from Taragaon in Bokajan subdivison of Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Wednesday.


Dhubri: Villagers of Kalarhat and Rowa in Dhubri district on Wednesday threatened to launch an agitation if the Gauripur-Rowa-Kalarhat Road was not constructed soon.
