Militant killed in encounter

Goalpara, June 3: A suspected militant of Rabha National Liberation Force was killed last night in an encounter with security forces at Dairang under Krishnai police station in Goalpara district of Assam, about 40km from here.

Police said the militant outfit had demanded money from a person of Krishnai recently. “Last night, the group called the person at Khardang to collect the money. When we got the information, we moved there. When they saw us at Dairang, they started firing. We retaliated and one person died in the firing,” Goalpara superintendent of police Nitul Gogoi said today.

The deceased has been identified as Diganta Rabha, 26, while others in the group managed to flee.

The police recovered a pistol and six rounds of live ammunition from the spot.

The outfit is active in Goalpara and Kamrup districts that share the inter-state boundary with neighbouring Meghalaya.
