Amit Sehgal missed joining the celebrations at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday but managed to catch a glimpse of his favourite Knights.
The 14-year-old was on his way to a mall in Park Circus with cousins when their car stopped at the signal at the Syed Amir Ali Avenue-Congress Exhibition Road crossing. “A traffic cop said the Kolkata Knight Riders would be crossing the spot in a few minutes,” said the student of St. James’ School. “I saw Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan and shouted out.”
The players waved to the thousands of fans who had lined the route from the hotel on the Bypass, where they were staying, to Eden. The fans, many of them carrying the KKR flag, chanted “KKR, KKR” as the team bus passed by.
Close to 200 fans had gathered at the Topsia crossing. Mohammad Aqil was among them. The owner of a bag-manufacturing unit in Topsia had stationed himself at the spot since 10am after he came to know that Team KKR would be passing by.
Outside Eden, too, a crowd awaited the Knights. Cheers greeted Gambhir as he led the players out of the bus, but the loudest ones were reserved for Yusuf Pathan.
