Race for ASG post

New Delhi, May 30: Several lawyers close to the BJP regime are being considered for elevation as additional solicitors-general.

Among the top contenders for the post is L. Nageswara Rao, who was an ASG under the UPA-II regime. He has the distinction of being an ASG under the earlier NDA regime.

Rao is also part of the three-member Mukul Mudgal panel, which is probing the IPL spot-fixing scandal.

The names of senior lawyers Maninder Singh, P.S. Patwalia, P.S. Narsimha, Pinky Anand, Indu Malhotra, Neeraj Kishan Kaul and Sanjay Jain are also doing the rounds in the legal corridors.

Surprisingly, although the government had cleared the names of Mukul Rohatgi and Ranjit Kumar for appointment as the new attorney general and solicitor-general on May 28, there has been no official order till date to the effect.
