‘Gauti a positive captain’

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team mentor Wasim Akram believes the 2012 champions have all the ‘ammunition’ to win their second IPL title again.

“We are optimistic of playing in the finalů However, the teams who have qualified for the play-offs are all confident sides and it could be anybody’s game. But we have the belief in our abilities and we have the ammunition to win the title,” Akram said.

The Gautam Gambhir-led side was reeling at the bottom half after losing four matches early in the tournament. However, they played brilliantly and won seven matches on the trot to finish second behind table-toppers Kings XI Punjab. Akram attributed the team’s turnaround to Gambhir’s smart leadership.

“It was a new team. We were trying to figure out the combinations. And, here, I must give credit to Gambhir for the kind of captain that he is. He is not a defensive captain who tries to stop the runs or save the match. But he is a positive captain who goes for the wickets and goes for a win,” said Akram.

Akram said that the team boasts of many impact players like Robin Uthappa and Sunil Narine. “Uthappa and Narine have surely contributed to the team’s good showing. Shakib-al Hasan has also been brilliant. The Bangladesh all-rounder is a world class player and we are lucky to have such players in the side,” said Akram. (PTI)
