Navarang lift trophy

Guwahati, May 26: Navarang Club annexed the first Maharishi Bora Trophy Cricket Tournament defeating Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre by 76 runs in the final at Judges field here yesterday.

Put in to bat, the Navarang boys piled up a competitive total of 200 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 35 overs. Sonu Kumar rose to the occasion with a fine knock of 70 runs off 75 balls which featured eight hits to the fence while P. Trinadha Rao chipped in with 34 runs off 52 deliveries. Angshuman Saikia was the other notable contributor for his side with 24 runs off 29 balls. Ranjan Sarkar picked up three wickets going for 19 runs in his five overs while Sohail Hussain scalped one wicket conceding 36 runs in his seven overs.

Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre could only manage 124 runs before being all out in 27.5 overs. Erik Roy topscored for his side with 56 runs off 52 balls studded with seven hits to the fence and one over the ropes while Ranjan Sarkar chipped in with 11 runs off 17 deliveries. Abhijit Das picked up three wickets conceding 12 runs in 4.5 overs while Abhijeet Rabha and Nekibur Rehman bagged two wickets each.

Erik Roy was awarded the Zaheer Iqbal Trophy for the Best Batsman while Azahar Ali of Navarang Club walked away with the Anup Ghatak Trophy for Best bowler. Sonu Kumar walked away with both the Man of the Final and Tournament honours respectively.

Dhan Sena Cricket: Sree Digambar Jain High School qualified for the quarter-finals in the Dhan Sena Sinha tenth All-Assam Inter-School Prize-money Cricket Tournament, organised by River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre at Latasil ground here, sharing a point each with Maharishi Vidya Mandir after their match was washed out today.
