JB push for panchayati raj

Guwahati, May 23: A meeting called by Assam governor J.B. Patnaik today decided that the panchayati raj bills of the two Sixth Schedule districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao should be completed in a time-bound manner so that the panchayati raj system could be intro-duced at the earliest in the districts.

The meeting at Raj Bhavan was attended by representatives of the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district councils apart from government officials.

Sources said the district councils were losing a lot of funds that the Union government provides to all other parts of the country.

The process of introducing the system in the BTAD has been initiated and sou-rces said a meeting would be called soon to review the matter.
