Jawan killed

Kokrajhar, May 18: An SSB jawan, Pramod Kumar Singh, was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Nalapara in Udalguri district today. He was on patrolling duty when the animal attacked him.

Guwahati: KMSS leader Kamal Medhi on Monday was granted bail by the court of additional sessions judge here in four cases.

Seized

Dhemaji: A team from the chief minister’s special vigilance team on Monday seized documents relating to various schemes from the Jonai-Dhemaji soil conservation office at Silapathar.

Arrested

Jorhat: A pick-up van driver, Pravin Bora, was arrested on charges of beating up a trader, Jugal Agarwal, of Jail Road here at Truck Stand on Monday. Both got into an altercation over parking of Agarwal’s bike at the spot where Bora had parked his van.

Snatch

Jorhat: Two incidents of attempts to snatch gold chain from necks of women were reported from New Colony of Raja Maidam here Saturday evening and Sunday night.

Evacuated

Itanagar: Fifty-three people residing here without inner line permits were evacuated by the administration and police on Monday.
