Bail for 5 in Parui murder

Suri, May 12: Five persons arrested in connection with the Sagar Ghosh murder case were today granted bail by a Birbhum court as the special investigating team failed to submit its chargesheet within 90 days.

Sagar’s son Hriday, who had unsuccessfully contested the rural polls as an Independent last year, today said the SIT had deliberately delayed filing the chargesheet so that the accused, all of whom are Trinamul workers, could get bail. “We never had faith in the SIT’s probe. The team did not submit the chargesheet so that the accused could obtain bail. The arrested persons are close to Anubrata Mondal,” Hriday said.

Sagar Ghosh was shot dead on July 21, four days after Birbhum Trinamul chief Mondal instructed party supporters to burn down houses of dissidents contesting as Independents and hurl bombs at police if they came to the rescue.

The five who got bail today are Trinamul anchal presidents of Bolpur block, Sheikh Yunus and Sheikh Mustafa, and Trinamul workers Jagannath Das, Jaladhar Das and Priyo Mukherjee.

Told about Hriday’s allegation, Mondal, an accused in the case, said: “Let the law take its own course.”
