2 in net for firing on civic chief

Ranchi, May 11: Two youths were arrested from Palamau today for their attempt to murder the chief of Hussainabad municipal body on May 5. Police seized a pistol, cartridges and mobile phones from them.

Niraj Dubey, alias Sonu, was arrested from Chainpur area, while Dipu Singh was nabbed in Mohammedganj.

Though the motive behind the attack was not clear yet, preliminary investigations suggested that the plan to eliminate Rameshwar Ram was hatched inside the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh.

Dreaded criminal Prem Singh, lodged in the jail with murder and extortion charges, is learnt to have masterminded the murder plan and his close aide in Hussainabad Dabloo Singh monitored its execution.

As per the plan, Sonu, Dipu and another youth had gone to Ram’s house in Hussainabad around 10pm on May 5.

Ram was sitting alone at the lawn of his house when the three youths came on a bike, enquiring about “Rameshwar uncle’s house”.

When Ram said that they had reached the right place, one of them entered the house and fired one shot at him.

Ram, who took a bullet in his abdomen, was rushed to RIMS in Ranchi, where he is still undergoing treatment.

“Interrogations are on. We are trying to verify their submissions. Search is on for other members of the gang,” said Palamau SP Y.S. Ramesh.

Police may seek the custody of Prem for interrogations.
