Start of a revolution: Sourav

Calcutta: Sourav Ganguly termed the birth of Atletico de Kolkata as the beginning of a revolution.

“It’s a big day for all of us associated with this project. I would say it’s the beginning of a revolution.”

“It started a year back when I lobbed the idea to Harsh and then a few months back Atletico showed interest. Finally we are here. It’s a long journey,” he said.

Sourav said Atletico de Kolkata would not be competing with cricket.

“I never believed in that idea. We are not here to compete with cricket. We just want to play. I personally want football to develop. Why cannot there be two sport equally popular! We have always seen two talented people on the same platform.”

Sourav also congratulated Atletico Madrid for their brilliant season.

“They are on the brink of creating a historic double. I want them to do well in both La Liga, which is at its business end, and in the Champions League final.

“We want them to be champions so that we start the season saying we’re already champions. We are very proud to have you with us,” he said.

Atletico Madrid also was effusive in praising the former India captain.

“Atletico Madrid believe in making the impossible possible. Atletico de Kolkata also will have the same motto.

“We are eternal challengers and when you have someone like Sourav on board, we are more than happy,” Atletico Madrid’s managing director (business development) Javier Martinez said.
