Difficult to defend at Kotla: Parnell

New Delhi: Delhi DareDevils (DD) pace bowler Wayne Parnell said here on Wednesday, that batting second against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could have brought better results. The defeat against KKR was DD’s sixth in eight outings.

“Batting second is bit easier on this wicket,” said the South African on Wednesday. “It is very difficult to defend any total here.” Asked why his captain Kevin Pietersen chose to bat after winning the toss, Parnell said: “I don’t know… you have to ask the team management.”

On Pietersen’s captaincy, Parnell said: “On the field, Kevin’s energy is unbelievable. Yes, he hasn’t scored runs but Kevin is a class player and I hope he will score runs in our next game.”

The DD fans were also at a loss to understand why the in-form batsmen JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav were sent low down in the order, despite their fine showings against Chennai Super Kings the other day. “I am not a part of decision makers. You have to ask Gary (Kirsten) that. We are really very close to playing a perfect game. Once that happens, it is going to be special.”
