SH have task cut out

Dale Steyn

Ahmedabad: Up against an outfit that has been highly inconsistent, an upbeat Rajasthan Royals will look to consolidate their position in the pecking order when they lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL VII, here, at the Sardar Patel Stadium, on Thursday.

The Royals staged a dramatic fightback to down Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 10 runs in their previous match, while the Sunrisers were overshadowed by Royal Challengers Bangalore, more so by AB de Villiers’ assault on Dale Steyn towards the end.

Led by inspiring Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, the Royals are placed third in the points table with five wins and two reverses. The Sunrisers, on the other hand, are struggling to keep their chances alive in the competition, already having suffered four defeats in six games to be placed seventh.

Watson has always been the key man in the Royals set-up and it will be no different this time around. The Aussie, who struck a 20-ball 31 to go with his three for 21 with the ball, will look to do even better, especially with the willow.

His performance with the ball too would be very important for the Royals. Tim Southee and James Faulkner are the other two specialist pacers in the side, though Southee got some stick early on against KKR.

Pace spearhead Dale Steyn will certainly want to make amends after the costly penultimate over against RCB and lead the attack with aplomb. It’s time Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma chip in as well with wickets.        (PTI)
