Protest over ATS arrest of student

An anti-terrorist squad team from Rajasthan had to face protests from residents who pelted stones on the Sherghati police station and blocked GT Road late on Tuesday evening.

The team came to take away a mechanical engineering final-year student Aamir Khan alias Shahid Khan (22) from Kazi Mohulla in Sherghati town.

Later, the ATS team produced Aamir in the court of Sherghati sub-divisional judicial magistrate Ramjee Prasad Yadav and prayed for transit remand. Subsequently, the ATS team took Aamir to Patna in a private vehicle on Wednesday on way to Jaipur. Aamir was also arrested earlier on March 22 this year from Delhi but released later.

Gaya city superintendent of police Chandan Kushwaha confirmed that Aamir has been arrested and taken to Jaipur on transit remand.

On the other hand, the family of Aamir that resides in Matkuria railway colony, Naya Bazaar in Dhanbad, is shocked over his arrest. His father Mohammad Feroz Khan is a driver in the railways posted in Dhanbad.

Aamir has been a good student of one of the best convent schools in Dhanbad, De Nobili. After completing secondary and higher secondary from De Nobili, he is pursuing final-year engineering in mechanical from GIT College, Jagatpura, Rajasthan. His sister Aiman Tabassum is a final-year BA student from Aligarh Muslim University. His younger brother Faizan Ali is also a student of civil engineering at a Bangalore college.

One Shahid Imam of Sherghati said Aamir had arrived Sherghati around five days ago. His parental house is in Kazi Mohulla where his uncle Shahnawaz lives with family. He had arrived Sherghati to meet grandmother.

About the arrest, he added that there was information that Aamir had been arrested earlier too in Delhi but released. Late on Tuesday evening, the people blocked the GT Road as police tried to disperse the mob who gathered outside the police station.

They also started throwing stones on the police station building and blocked the key road around 9.30pm for an hour.
