Abhijit, Didarul top contest

Hailakandi, May 5: Abhijit Das and Didarul Islam were adjudged champions in the bench press and body-building events respectively in the Golden Assam Gold Winning Power Sports Barak Valley organised by Youth Sports and Physical Education Centre at Silchar yesterday.

Das won the gold with 60-66kg in bench press while Abhisekh Paul and Gautam Das had to settle for the silver and bronze respectively.

Didarul bagged the gold in heavyweight category in bench press followed by Abhisekh Roy and Deep Nandi. In the middle category, the first three position holders were Maksud Ahmed, Gautam Das and Salim Uddin Laskar.

In below-53kg in bench press, Saharul Hussain, Sohail Seikh and Shiv Charan Biswas bagged the gold, silver and bronze respectively, while Sandip Ghosh, Saleh Ahmed and Sanjoy Paul secured the first three positions in 54-59kg category. Bishnu Paul, Imdadur Rahman and Tapan Upadhyay won the first three positions in the 67-74kg category while in the 75-85kg category, Rejaul Ahmed Laskar, Amarjit Debnath and Sanjiv Chetri bagged the first three positions. In the 86kg category and above, Abhijit Dey, Ratul Bhowmick and Jayanta Nag clinched the gold, silver and bronze respectively.

The winners were awarded gold coins.
