Husband arrested

Silchar, April 29: Jacky Jakir, husband of Assam MLA Rumi Nath was today produced in a court here on charges of domestic violence and extortion.

Police arrested Jacky yesterday after Rumi, the Congress MLA from Borkhola Assembly constituency, lodged an FIR against him alleging extortion and physical assault.

Today, at 3pm, Jacky was produced before the chief judicial magistrate where the court denied Jacky’s bail plea and remanded him in 14 days’ judicial custody.

According to police, they arrested Jacky at Shalchapra in Cachar district when he was on his way to Karmiganj town on a motorcycle.

Earlier Rumi Nath, married an Uttar Pradesh based physician-cum-businessman, Rakesh Kumar Singh. In May 2012, Nath married Jacky and converted to Islam, creating controversy.
