Health hub team

The health department has constituted a team to visit state-run hospitals and find out their way of functioning.

Sources said the team has inspected two hospitals. It has been decided that the erring doctors would face the heat based on the reports submitted by the team.

An officer with the department said: “This is a first-of-its-kind initiative of the department. We are taking help of a well-trained team of information and public relations department (IPRD) in carrying out the probe.”

He added: “The team comprises artistes associated with the IPRD, who have been asked to visit the government hospitals undercover so that they could see the functioning of the hospitals. The artistes have to check whether a patient is facing any kind of problem from the doctors or any other employee or does he/she faces problems in getting pathological tests done.”

The officer said the team has already visited Patna Medical College and Hospital and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital. “Action has been initiated against the doctors who were found neglecting their duties,” he said.

The state chapter of the Indian Medical Association did not appreciate the move. The president of the body, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, said: “By doing this, the officials are trying to find out the wrong-doings of the doctors. The doctors should have been given their long-awaited promotions.”
