Razor attack on JVM man

A JVM worker was injured when a group of youths, believed to be Congress supporters, attacked him with razors near Tagore Academy in Sakchi police station area on Monday morning.

Kunal Gupta (26), who was also assaulted with a pistol butt, was protesting against bogus voting for JMM candidate Niroop Mahanty by a section of Congress workers at the Tagore Academy polling booth on April 17.

Bhuinyadih resident Gupta has been admitted to MGM Medical College and Hospital with seven wounds on his left arm, besides internal head injuries and gashes on the face caused by pistol butt.

Gupta, who claimed to be the vice-president of JVM’s Sakchi unit, said he had gone to have breakfast at a push-cart around 9am when he was attacked.

“The group was led by one Lulla Prasad. They hit me with the butt of a pistol. I managed to flee, but they chased me and slashed me with razors,” the youth said.

Sakchi OC Gopal Singh confirmed that they had registered a complaint of assault against Congress supporters. “The matter is being investigated. Preliminary probe suggests old enmity although the victim claims the assault was spurred by his protest against bogus voting,” he said.
