Affair ends in deaths

A 30-year-old married man, who was having an affair with a much younger co-worker, was found dead along with his lover at Tetulia under Chandankyari block of Bokaro district on Monday morning, the empty bottles of liquor and pesticide lying beside the bodies suggesting suicide.

Maheshwar Ravani, a resident of Jharnatand under Siyaljori police station area of Chandankyari block, used to work as a manager at a brick kiln at Dulagbandh, where he fell in love with 19-year-old Malti Marandi two years ago.

A resident of Kusumtola, also in Siyaljori, Malti was a worker at the kiln.

When Maheshwar’s father and wife came to know about the extramarital affair, they mounted pressure on him to break up with Malti. But the girl made it clear to Maheshwar, a father of two, that she would not be able to live without him.

On Sunday, some villagers saw the two roaming near Dualgbandh, about 32km from Bokaro steel city. To their shock, they found the two dead at an isolated spot around 5.30am on Monday. Two empty bottles of liquor, pesticide and two glasses were found.

Siyaljori officer-in-charge Gopal Kumar said: “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of double suicide.”
