Swamy ‘black money’ salvo at Sonia

Guwahati, April 18: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today alleged that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had stashed away black money in three secret accounts in different foreign banks.

Swamy, a known Sonia-baiter, said she had secret accounts at Vatican Bank, Sarasin Bank in Basel and Pictet Bank in Zurich.

“Recently, she has withdrawn $10 billion from her secret account at the Vatican Bank,” he said, while addressing the media here this afternoon. According to Swamy, she has around Rs 1.5 lakh crore deposited in banks abroad, including the secret accounts.

“If the BJP comes to power, we will bring back the black money stashed away in foreign banks,” he said. Indians have deposited black money to the tune of Rs 120 lakh crore in foreign banks, he added.

Hitting back at the Congress for calling Narendra Modi an agent of the corporate sector, Swamy said it is Sonia and Rahul who travel in private jets of Ambanis, GMR, Essar and Shahid Balwa, an aide of Dawood Ibrahim.

Accusing the UPA government of ruining the economy, he said in 2003-04, the last year of the NDA government, the growth rate was 8.4 percent, which came down to 4.8 percent in 2013-14, in the last year of UPA-II. “Similarly, the rate of savings had come down from 32.41 per cent of GDP in the last year of NDA rule to 30 per cent of GDP in the last year of UPA-II,” he said.

Swamy said during the NDA rule, 60.7 million jobs were created or 12.1 million jobs per year, while during the UPA-II tenure, only 15.4 million jobs were created, around 2.2 million jobs per year.

“When the NDA was in power, the value of the rupee was 45.90 per US dollar but the same has gone up to Rs 67.7 during the last year of UPA-II,” he said.

Swamy challenged the Centre to contradict the figures. “I am challenging deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as they are economists and not finance minister P. Chidambaram since he is a lawyer and only interested in making money. He does not know anything about economy.”

The BJP leader took a dig at finance minister P.C. Chidambaram saying he does not have a constituency in India to contest polls and should contest from Pakistan. “He should contest from Peshawar and the al-Qaeda will take care of him.”

He said the BJP would try to achieve a 10 per cent growth grate if it comes to power, bring inflation under control by abolishing forward trading and create employment opportunities for all, among others.

On the Election Commission withdrawing its order that prohibited Amit Shah from campaigning in Uttar Pradesh, Swamy said the commission’s notice to Shah was “bogus” as he had not violated the model code of conduct by asking voters to take revenge by voting.

“By asking people to take revenge by pressing the EVM button, Shah advocated a very peaceful method as people in Muzaffarnagar are unhappy with the Samajwadi Party for failing to maintain law and order,” he said.

Swamy demanded the poll panel should take action against Congress leader Kapil Sibal for allegedly concealing the business interests of his wife, who has a stake in a company exporting cow meat.

On being asked about the outcome of the election, he said the BJP alone will get around 280 seats, while the NDA will win around 335 seats.

Referring to demonstrations in front of his house in Delhi, Swamy said the “Gandhis are a violent family”.

Hundreds of women Congress workers yesterday staged a demonstration outside his residence of Swamy in Nizamuddin, demanding an apology for his “derogatory” remarks against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

“If they have a problem with me they can move court or approach the Election Commission. But they are holding demonstrations and breaking window panes in my house and try to steal documents from my residence,” he said.
