Starting next week, most ICSE and CBSE schools across Jamshedpur will start 45 minutes or an hour earlier and wrap up before or by noon to shield students from the worst of the summer scorcher.
Day temperatures of 40°C and above prompted schools to revise timings from Classes I to XII. Reacting before the district administration could send circulars, schools have already taken the onus to provide relief to students.
Right now, most schools start around 7.30am and end between 1pm and 1.30pm. Kindergarten classes apart, which end early, students face the brunt of midday heat. But post Easter, this will change.
Most schools will start and end early from April 21, a few on April 22-23.
“We will change timings from Monday, April 21. While Classes I to VIII will start at 6.30am and wrap up by 11.45am, Classes IX to XII will end by 10.45am as most teachers are on ICSE evaluation duty,” said Lata Sharat, principal, JH Tarapore School.
On April 21, Narbheram Hansraj English School will start from 7am and end at 11.30am. From the same day, DBMS English School and Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS) will start at 6.30am, but DBMS will finish at 11.30am and KSMS at 11.40am.
“We change timings from April 15 but this week is full of holidays and elections. So, we will make the change from next week,” said Rajani Shekhar, principal, DBMS English School.
CBSE-affiliated Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco, will also start classes from 6.45am and finish by 12.30pm from Monday, April 21.
From April 22, Telco-based Hill Top School will start and wrap up an hour earlier, from 6.30am to 12.30pm.
CBSE-affiliated school Kasidih High School will start summer timings of 6.30am to 11.30am from April 23. Principal Francis Joseph said the delay was due to polls.
“The district administration took over our school premises for polls from April 15. Once school opens on Monday, we will tell parents and auto drivers about new timings and give them a couple of days to adjust,” he said.
Loyola School, which will host its Easter rally on Monday, April 21, will start summer timings of 6.25am to 11.50am the day after.
Rajendra Vidyalaya will also change its timings but has not decided on the date so far.
