Twin mishaps, 7 hurt

Seven persons were injured in separate mishaps in Patamda and Ichagarh on Wednesday morning.

The injured have been admitted to MGM hospital, where condition of one Jogeswar Oraon (45) is stated as critical.

The remaining injured have been identified as Kartik Majhi, Dhananjay Barik, Ranjit Mahto, Shyam Sahis, Balram Rajak and Lakha Oraon.

In one mishap, Jogeswar Oraon and nephew Lakha (22) were injured when a truck hit the bike they were riding from behind at Gurma village on Chandil-Ichagarh Road in Ichagarh police station area, about 35km from the steel city.

Ichagarh OC Amerjeet Prasad said the truck driver drove away after the mishap.

In another incident, five persons were injured when a pick-up van they were travelling in turned turtle at Samatajobra village in Kamalpur police station area in Patamda, about 25km from Jamshedpur. The victims were going to a marriage ceremony in Purulia.

One of the injured, Kartik Majhi, said “Our driver was inebriated and was driving at breakneck speed. While negotiating a curve, the vehicle overturned,” Majhi said, adding the driver fled the scene.
