Thangboi keeping fingers crossed

Calcutta: Shillong Lajong FC coach Thangboi Singto is keeping fingers crossed about the ambitious plans of the Indian Super League (ISL).

Lajong joined hands with John Abraham to bag the franchise rights for Guwahati in the ISL.

“It’s too early to say anything. The franchise owners have been identified… The planning has just been done and we don’t know yet about its structure… We will have to wait and see… May be I can throw some light after a year,” said Singto.

Singto compared the ISL with having a hilsa.

“The ISL is an ambitious project… There’s no doubt about it. It’s much like having a hilsa. You don’t know how it will be until you have tasted it.”

The coach feels the country will gain if former World Cup stars play in the ISL.

“Zico played in the J-league while David Beckham also played Major League Soccer in the US. These stars’ participation gave their football a boost. Perhaps we’ll know in time to come how much star participation will help us.”
