Ex-MLA jail shift on radar

The district administration is mulling transfer of former MLA Munna Shukla from Khudiram Bose Memorial Central Jail to either Bhagalpur Central Jail or somewhere else in a day or two.

The former legislator was also taken to the Muzaffarpur district court on Tuesday to execute the process of the transfer. Sources believe Munna’s presence in Muzaffarpur could vitiate the political atmosphere. “The district administration is determined to shift Munna from Muzaffarpur in a few days,” said a senior police officer.

Munna was removed from the Sadar hospital on April 3 and sent to jail after a raid by the administration led to recovery of electronic gadgets and a Wi-fi router. Some unidentified accomplices of Munna were also in the room. Shukla had been shifted to the hospital from prison after he complained of pain, high blood pressure and abdominal ailments. The sub-divisional officer (east), Sunil Kumar, and city deputy superintendent of police A.K. Singh raided his room on April 2.

Munna’s wife Anu Shukla, a JD(U) MLA from Lalganj Assembly is contesting as an Independent.
