CPM coal grouse

Asansol, April 11: The CPM today lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that coal smugglers in Asansol and Durgapur had been given a free hand by the Trinamul Congress in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

The CPM expressed fears that the ruling party could use the “muscle power” of the smugglers to “rig” the elections and accused police of not taking any action.

Trinamul denied the charge and claimed that coal smuggling had been stopped after it came to power. The police said they had arrested 56 pilferers since March.
