Life for husband

Balurghat, April 7: The additional district sessionís second court in Balurghat today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for strangling his pregnant wife to death.

The verdict was pronounced by the additional district session judge (second) Sayed Nurul Hossen.

According to a source, Sukuruddin Mia, 35, would often pressurise his wife Rina Bibi, 28, for more dowry. On October 31, 2012, he sent his two kids to his sisterís house and strangled his wife to death with a sari. The next day, local people tied Mia with a rope and took him to the Banshihari police station. The brother of the deceased filed an FIR and Mia was charged under sections 498A (torture) and 302 (murder) of the IPC.

ďThe additional district session judge (second) Sayed Nurul Hossen has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment a fine of Rs 50,000 and in default of which the convict would have to spend another five years in jail. He has also been convicted under section 498A with imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs 10,000 in default of which, he would have to spend another six months in jail.
