Attack on family over conversion

Kokrajhar, April 7: Goons vandalised and torched the houses of five families at Daloabari village in Kokrajhar district late last evening allegedly for converting to another religion.

Sources said around 10 persons armed with sharp weapons vandalised the houses of five families and gutted four houses.

Four houses of Reven Basumatary and Binoy Brahma were torched while the houses of Tani Brahma, Raja Brahma and Sarsing Brahma were vandalised. The families alleged that they were attacked for converting to another religion.

An FIR has been filed at Kokrajhar police station in this regard.

Police said strict measures have been taken to prevent any unwanted incident in the area.

One person was arrested in connection with the incident.

Various organisations, including the All Bodo Studentsí Union have condemned the incident.

Absu urged the people to respect each otherís religion and maintain peace and harmony for the welfare of society.
