Hosts outplay Charaideo

Guwahati, March 31: A five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Yadavendra Singh helped hosts Guwahati bundle out Charaideo for a total of 183 on the first day of the Elite group semi-final round match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

In reply, Guwahati were sitting pretty with 25 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Put in to bat, Charaideo managed 183 runs before being all out in 80.1 overs. Harmeet Singh scored 37 runs off 112 deliveries with five hits to the fence while Asif Ahmed chipped in with 33 runs off 99 balls.

Imdadul Saikia with 32 runs and Manashjyoti Gogoi with 29 runs were the other notable contributors for their side. Yadavendra Singh was the wrecker-in-chief with five wickets in his kitty for 36 runs off 24.1 overs while Sunzow Brahma scalped two for 18 off 11 overs. Kon Urang and Shuhel Rahman picked up one wicket each.

In reply, Guwahati’s Rahul Hazarika was at the crease with 13 runs off 15 deliveries while night watchman Yadavendra Singh was at the other end with five runs off 13 balls.

Biplab Saikia was the lone wicket to fall for one run to a Mujibur Ali delivery.

In the other semi-final at Nehru Stadium, Nagaon ensured the first-innings lead against Dibrugarh till the end of the first day’s play.

Electing to bat, Dibrugarh batsmen failed to stay in the middle for long as the side went on to be bundled out for 94 runs in 29.5 overs.

Left-arm spinner Bichitra Baruah produced a splendid spell of bowling to return with figures of six for 27 off 11.5 overs while Ashok Saini scalped four wickets going for 32 runs off 11 overs.

Jyotiraditya Chetia scored 32 runs off 30 balls while Dipok Singh and Bastab Hazarika contributed 16 and 14 runs respectively.

Coming in to bat in their first innings, Nagaon ensured their first innings lead by putting up a total of 197 runs in 53.5 overs.

Eshaan Ravi topscored with 56 runs off 146 balls, which featured five hits to the fence and one over the ropes while Raj Borah chipped in with 39 runs off 37 deliveries. Hokaito Zhimomi and Dhiraj Goswami contributed 25 and 23 runs respectively.

Left-arm spinner Deepak Gohain and offie Dipu Chetry bagged five wickets each going for 73 runs each.

Dibrugarh were five for no loss in two overs till the stumps were drawn on the first day. Amit Boro with five runs and Biswajit Sarkar (without opening his account) were at the crease.
