Calcutta, March 29: Saturday was the hottest day of the season and the Met office said the hot and dry weather would continue for the next one or two days.
Today’s maximum temperature was 39.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal.
According to Met department officials, there are no weather systems in and around Calcutta now that could bring moisture from the Bay of Bengal. They said the surge in temperature was because of this.
The officials said a “loo” (hot, dry wind) was blowing over western Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar.
