Smartt, Daley shine for WI

Calcutta: West Indies cruised to their third win in a row and moved to the top of the Group B after comprehensively defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets in a Women’s World T20 match, in Sylhet, on Friday.

Sri Lanka chose to bat and got off to a good start, their openers putting on 25 in just 3.2 overs. Sri Lanka, though, collapsed, losing their last nine wickets for 43 runs and ending their innings at 84 with 3.1 overs left to play.

Medium-pacers Tremayne Smartt and Shanel Daley did the bulk of the damage, sharing seven wickets between them.

West Indies reached their target in 15 overs. Stafanie Taylor made an unbeaten 45-ball 56 with seven fours.

In another match, England thrashed hosts Bangladesh by 79 runs.

A 69-ball 80 from Charlotte Edwards and six wickets shared between off-spinner Danielle Hazell and pacer Natalie Sciver helped England to the total. Bangladesh could manage only 79 runs.
