Guwahati, March 28: Nagaon took a vital first-innings lead to gain an upper hand against home side Guwahati on the second day of their elite group semi-finals super league match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district cricket tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.
Resuming the innings at an overnight score of 108 runs for the loss of three wickets, the side piled up 279 all out off 111.2 overs in reply to Guwahati’s first-innings score of 162 runs.
Overnight batsman Ashok Saini, who was in the middle with 38 runs yesterday, went on to topscore for his side with 57 runs, slamming seven hits to the fence and two over the ropes. All-rounder Dhiraj Goswami contributed 53 while wicketkeeper-batsman Amjad Ali and Raj Bora chipped in with 33 runs each.
Yadavendra Singh of Guwahati picked up three wickets conceding 77 runs off 28.2 overs while Suhail Rahman and Abir Chakraborty bagged two wickets each.
In their second innings, Guwahati were 86 for two at close of the second day’s play. Hrishikesh Tamuli was at the crease on 42 while Sunzow Brahma was at the other end with one.
In the other semi-final at Nehru Stadium, Dibrugarh continued their domination over Charaideo.
Charaideo batsmen were tottering at 197 for six in 69 overs, in reply to Dibrugarh’s first innings total of 424 runs.
Resuming the innings at the overnight 362 for eight, Dibrugarh went on to put up 424 runs before being bundled out in 109.3 overs.
Amit Boro topscored for the side with 51 runs while Suraj Chaturvedi remained unbeaten on 49.
Manashjyoti Gogoi and Md Shahid Ahmed picked up four wickets each while Sanjib Dutta took one wicket.
In reply, Charaideo were left struggling at the end of the second day’s play. Sanjib Dutta topscored with an unbeaten 110 runs off 173 balls, which included 21 boundaries, while Mujibur Ali contributed 21 runs.
