Sen links poor show to infight

March 28: Indranil Sen, the Trinamul Congress’s Lok Sabha poll candidate for Behrampore, today said factional feud was the main reason for the party’s poor performance in elections in Murshidabad.

Addressing party workers in Behrampore town this afternoon, singer Sen said that on the day Mamata Banerjee released Trinamul’s manifesto, she had asked him about his constituency.

“I told her voters in Behrampore are in favour of Trinamul, the party workers are sincere and they are working hard for me. The Trinamul leaders in Murshidabad are good human beings,” Sen said.

“Didi then asked me why our poll performance in Murshidabad was poor. I told her the reason was factional feud among a section of leaders. So let us decide today that we will bury our differences and work together. If you have differences among yourselves, you can fight after the Lok Sabha poll results are declared,” he added.

Trinamul has only one MLA in Murshidabad. In the panchayat polls last year, Trinamul had won 25 of the district’s 254 gram panchayats and only one of the 26 panchayat samitis. Of the 70 zilla parishad seats, Trinamul had won only one.

Trinamul sources said two district unit leaders had argued with each other in Sen’s presence at a meeting in Behrampore on Wednesday.
