Minister talks tough in presence of Nitish

Patna, March 26: Agriculture minister Narendra Singh today claimed in the presence of Nitish Kumar that Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary — the JD(U) candidate from the Jamui Lok Sabha seat — would lose security deposit without his backing, deepening the crisis in the party.

“A section within the party is spreading the canard that I am opposing the JD(U)’s nominee. They should understand that the JD(U) candidate would not succeed in saving his deposit if I really oppose him,” Narendra said at a public meeting in which Chaudhary was present besides Nitish.

Narendra, however, clarified that he would support Chaudhary in Jamui — his family bastion..

Asked about his outbursts on a public platform in Nitish’s presence, Narendra told The Telegraph: “I am really pained by the manner in which the party leadership is distributing tickets for the Lok Sabha polls. No consultation was done.”

Narendra virtually poured cold water on Nitish’s campaign on its second day. The chief minister addressed meetings in Munger, Jamui and Nalanda Lok Sabha constituencies but refrained from commenting on Narendra’s statement in Jamui.

Turmoil in BJP

The BJP legislator from Chanpatiya in West Champaran, Chandra Mohan Rai, today expressed his objection to the distribution of tickets in the party. He would reveal his future plan tomorrow.
