Outer candidate richer than in 2009

Imphal, March 23: Congress candidate Thangso Baite, who is seeking re-election from the reserved constituency of Outer Manipur has become slightly richer since the 2009 Parliament election, but is yet to repay a loan taken before the last Parliament election.

The affidavit furnished by him while filing nomination papers for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections showed his cash in hand as Rs 50,000 and bank balance of Rs 38,981. His wife had a sum of Rs 30,000 in hand by that time.

The immovable assets for the candidate were valued at Rs 14.5 lakh.

The affidavit showed that the candidate owned one Gypsy and his spouse had a Scorpio.

The affidavits given by him while filing nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election for the Outer Manipur seat say he has Rs 85,000 in hand Rs 3,42,000 balance in two bank accounts in his name. His wife has a bank balance of Rs 2,00,000.

His present movable assets are valued at Rs 11. 27 lakh. His total immovable assets are valued at Rs 20.5 lakh while the immovable assets of his wife are valued at Rs 17.7 lakh.

Interestingly, the 2009 affidavits showed that he borrowed a sum of Rs 8,80,000 as a loan from Manipur state Assembly. The latest affidavits show that the MP is yet to pay back the loan.

Altogether 10 candidates, including two Independents, filed their nomination papers for the Outer constituency, reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. The filing of nomination was closed yesterday and the scrutiny will be held tomorrow.

The nine other candidates are Gangmumei Kamei (BJP), Kim Gangte (Trinamul Congress), Soso Lorho (Naga Peoples Front), C. Doungel (NCP), Lien Gangte (JD-U), Khamchinpau Zou (Aam Aadmi Party), Lamlalmoi Gangte (CPI-ML), Mani Charenamei (Independent) and Amarson Sankhil (Independent).

Though the filing of nomination was closed yesterday, the affidavits of only six candidates were uploaded on the chief electoral officer Manipurís website till this afternoon. The candidates, whose affidavits are uploaded are Doungel, Mani, Lorho, Gangmumei, Kim and Baite.

Doungel, who is a former minister from Saikul of Senapati district, has movable properties of Rs 8,05,000 and immovable properties valued at Rs 58,96,792.

Mani, who was a former Lok Sabha MP from Tamenglong district has a movable properties of Rs 8,60,295 and immovable properties valued at Rs 94,50,000. Loan amount payable to bank is shown as Rs 11,08,000.

Movable and immovable assets of Gangmumei are shown as Rs 1,05,40,364.

The affidavits of Kim Gangte fighting the election from Churachandpur district, show the lowest figures. She has movable assets of Rs 1,50,000 and immovable assets valued at Rs 4,80,000.

Lorho has Rs 10,00,000 in hand and Rs 20,00,000 in banks. His immovable assets are valued at Rs 78,87,990, according to his affidavits.
